Preparing your Will during COVID-19

Kalpa Prajapati, Head of Private Client

At this time of uncertainty resulting from COVID-19, our staff and clients remain our primary concern. It is therefore imperative that we remain able to serve our clients and protect their legal interests.

As is always the case, it is important to make sure you have an up-to-date Will that suits your current circumstances and our Private Client Department will be happy to assist you with this.

At Grant Saw, we can prepare a Will for you without the need for you to leave your home. Our ID checks can be carried out online, and meetings to take instructions can be conducted via video conference. We can send draft Wills securely by email together with full signing instructions to make the process for you as easy as possible.

You can communicate with the team at Grant Saw via video conferencing facilities such as Microsoft Teams or WhatsApp which is end to end encrypted. Clients can receive expert support and advice from our team remotely in a quick and efficient manner without compromising the quality of our service or security. We can arrange video calls outside of usual working hours.

So, why is a Will so important at this time?

Without a Will, your estate may not pass in the most tax-efficient way and you will have no control over who would inherit from your estate.  Being married and/or having children does not necessarily mean they will inherit as you wish and having clear, detailed plans in place should ease the burden on your loved ones at a difficult time.

Even if you have a Will, it is necessary to ensure it is reviewed on a periodic basis to check that it still achieves your wishes. In particular, if your family or financial circumstances have changed, you may find your current Will is no longer appropriate.

During your video conference with one of our solicitors, you will be guided through the Will making process and will also receive full inheritance tax advice on your current liability and hear suggestions on how this can be minimised. Your lawyer can also provide specialist advice on any complex family and financial circumstances you may have.

At Grant Saw, we are committed to preparing bespoke Wills for our clients which cater for their specific needs.

We are also offering NHS staff a 20% discount on our usual fees. The NHS are performing an invaluable job in keeping us all safe and we would like to repay their kindness by reducing the amount it will cost them to put a Will in place to help protect them and their families.
