During September, four members of staff embarked on a 100km running challenge to raise funds for our 2020/21 charity of the year, Bromley, Lewisham and Greenwich Mind (BLG Mind). Our runners – Imelda Galvin, Michael Pope, Michael Tobin and Ray Crudgington – all completed the challenge with days to spare and raised £570 in total.
The team provided weekly updates on their progress and embraced the challenge perfectly. This is what they have had to say:
“What an amazing month September was. I am so happy to run over 120km for BLG Mind. This is a wonderful charity and I have to say that changing my routine and doing a run at least 5 days out of 7 has had an amazing effect on me. Not only am I physically healthier but so much more calm, relaxed and generally happier mentally. I was really hoping I could do this challenge but at the beginning it seemed like such a big task. However, my dad used to always say to me, ‘if you take something on, do it the very best you can’. He always encouraged me to go further than I think I can. The further I got, the more excited, happy and healthy I became. This has not only been an achievement but a change of lifestyle now. Thank you to everyone who has donated, it is appreciated”.
Imelda Galvin, Matrimonial Secretary
“It has been great to be able to run for such a good cause. Thank you to everyone who sponsored our team of runners”.
Michael Pope, Consultant Solicitor
“I am happy to be part of a team of dedicated individuals who have put in a great amount of effort to complete this challenge to raise funds for BLG Mind. I’d like to say a huge well done to my fellow runners. From completing this challenge, I feel great – physically and mentally. Thank you to everyone for their support and encouragement throughout. Raising over £500 from this initiative is very pleasing and I am looking forward to participating in other fundraisers over the coming months”.
Michael Tobin, Marketing and Business Development Manager
“I am delighted to have succeeded in the challenge and raised some money for BLG Mind. It was very much a month of two halves for me, though. I went through the 100km barrier by 15 September but the half marathon distance I ran on 12 September proved over-ambitious and I have had to take it easy since with a thigh injury. Running has been a great help to my mental health during the last few months and I’d advise anyone who wants to give it a go to try a couch to 5k programme. Thanks to all who supported us so generously and well done to my ‘team mates’. I think we’ll keep running…”
Ray Crudgington, Managing Partner
Lucy Morrell, Fundraising Manager at BLG Mind, said “Well done to the Grant Saw team for completing their 100km challenge during September and raising over £500 for us. A truly fantastic achievement! Your ongoing support is helping to raise awareness of the importance of looking after your mental health, as well as vital funds which directly supports your local community. Keep up the great work and we look forward to the next challenge”.
We have now raised over £900 towards our annual target of £2,500. If you would like to support our efforts, please click here.
